K2B — dos etapas / two-stage

What we do with a KBB in the workshop
- Complete overhaul with strip-down, ultrasonic cleaning and micro-blasting
- Dynamic rotor balancing from 100 g to 2.000 kg
- NDT by dye penetrant, dimensional checks and hardness testing
- Shaft recovery by grinding and metal spraying
- Replacement cartridges and units to cut engine downtime
- Field service: on-site inspections and cartridge changes
We plan inspections to the intervals published by KBB for each series and application — gas-engine duty is more demanding than diesel — and align them with the plant's outage plan.
K2B two-stage systems
KBB builds two-stage charging systems for high-performance gas engines: an LPR5 low-pressure stage and an HSR4 high-pressure stage up to 2.500 kW, plus larger frame sizes with HSR6 and HPA7000. The technology has been in field operation since 2014 with more than 130 sets installed according to the manufacturer.
We service both stages and supply their spare parts as part of our authorised service partner status.
KBB as a retrofit alternative
On Jenbacher, MWM and Caterpillar gas engines originally fitted with ABB turbochargers, KBB's HPR and ST27 series are a proven alternative — in some cases, such as the ST5 on a Jenbacher J620, as a direct fit.
- ABB TPC47 and TPS48F → KBB HPR3000
- ABB TPS52D/E and TPS52F → KBB HPR4000
- ABB TPS57D/E and TPS57F → KBB HPR5000
- ABB A140 → KBB ST5 (plug & play)
Frequently asked questions
What does being KBB authorised technical service mean in practice?
That the manufacturer's standard is applied close to your fleet: procedures, tolerances and genuine parts for the KBB range, without shipping the unit to a distant works. It also means the retrofit route is supported afterwards — spares and overhauls for the installed unit stay with us.
Why do the filter mats matter more than they look?
Because a saturated filter is one of the cheapest causes of surging: the compressor loses flow, the air becomes unstable and the noise appears. Filter mats are washable a limited number of times — typically around five — and then they are replaced. Keeping a clean one in stock to fit while the dirty one dries is the practical way to do it.
