On-site dynamic balancing

We take the balancing machine to the rotor instead of bringing the rotor to the workshop. On board, in port, at anchor or at the plant itself — from 1 to 750 kg, with vibration measured before and after.

The workshop travels instead

An out-of-balance rotor does not always justify stripping the whole turbocharger, crating it and shipping it to a workshop. Where access allows, we balance it where it is: that saves the full strip-down, the crating and the round trip — which on most outages is what sets the schedule, not the repair itself.

Frequently asked questions

What rotor size can you balance on site?

From 1 to 750 kg, with three portable machines covering that range. Above 750 kg the rotor goes to the nearest station in the network — our capabilities page lists what fits where.

Does the whole turbocharger have to come apart?

Not always: it depends on access and on the condition of the rotor. Send us the nameplate and a few photos of the installation and we'll tell you before anyone mobilises.

When is on site NOT the right call?

When the rotor is beyond the portable range, when there is damage that needs machining, welding or shaft recovery, or when access does not allow the machine to be set up safely. In those cases it is a workshop job, and we say so up front.

How far do you travel?

We mobilise from the 11 stations of the network, on 4 continents, with a 24/7 emergency line. The starting point is decided by where the vessel or plant is, not by where head office is.

Why does a rotor go out of balance?

Through dirt build-up, erosion or corrosion, blade damage, worn parts or wrong torques after an assembly. Unbalance is an asymmetric mass distribution: it is corrected on a machine, removing material at the correction planes — never by eye. After any blade repair, balancing is not optional.
