WHY RECONDITION

When it beats buying new

  • Cost: recovering a component is a fraction of the price of a new part
  • Lead time: no waiting on OEM factory lead times
  • Obsolescence: for veteran models (e.g. large axial units) it is sometimes the only route
  • Same standard: measurements, balancing and final testing as in any overhaul

Reconditioning is decided component by component, not unit by unit: on the same machine it can make sense to recover the casing and the shaft, renew the bearing pack and leave the rest alone.

Every proposal starts with a feasibility assessment: unit condition, component availability and an honest comparison against replacement. If it doesn't pay off, we tell you.

When a unit has no life left in it — or the manufacturer has stopped supporting it — the route is a retrofit, which has its own page.

Air filter silencers

This is the turbocharger's first line of defence: it holds back solid particles and contaminants carried in the intake air while damping the intake noise. As service hours build up it loses retention capacity and adds pressure drop, so the unit works harder and the engine burns more.

It is reconditioned rather than replaced as a matter of course: full disassembly, micro-blasting of supports, body and panels, replacement of the felt sheets with their rivets, and renewal of the filter mesh.

Bearing packs

We recondition packs for ABB / Accelleron VTR series 0/1 and 4 and for PBS PDH units, among others. The pack is stripped completely and deep-cleaned after a dimensional check of every component. Rolling bearings and damping foils are discarded; the rest are measured for reuse or renewed. The work is done in a dedicated room kept under strict cleanliness and dust-free conditions.

Reassembled with new rolling bearings, the complete pack goes through the test bench, where its final tolerances are set and verified. It is then immersed in a preservative bath and canned for long-term storage.

We also recondition the oil pumps of these same turbocharger types — VTR, VTC and PDH.

Frequently asked questions

Which components can be recovered?

Shafts (grinding and metal spraying), blades, nozzle rings, cracked or eroded casings, and complete cartridges. Feasibility depends on the damage: NDT inspection determines whether the component can safely return to tolerance.

What is actually measured in an overhaul?

The rotor's radial and axial clearances — which define its working position — and the condition of blades, nozzle rings and bearings against tolerances. Out of tolerance, the rotor can end up rubbing; at these speeds, a rub is a serious failure. That is why we measure at every strip-down and every assembly.

What warranty does a reconditioned part carry?

The same traceability as an overhaul: a service report with measurements and final testing, and 12 months' warranty on the work performed. Reconditioned does not mean a lower standard.

Is a temperature alarm right after the overhaul normal?

It is a known phenomenon: cleaning the deposits off the diffuser leaves a wider tip clearance and efficiency drops slightly; the layer re-forms within days and performance usually recovers by itself. If the alarm persists, blades are reconditioned or components replaced — based on measurements.
